MaheuRx Reliability’s four-day Machinery Component Failure Analysis course develops the practical skills needed to determine why machinery components fail—not simply identify what failed.
The course combines technical instruction, real-world industrial case studies, hands-on examination of failed components, and machinery diagnostic techniques with a structured Root Cause Analysis Logic Tree methodology. Participants learn how to progress from physical evidence and failure modes to the identification of contributing human errors and latent or systemic deficiencies.
Participants develop a structured approach to evidence collection, failure mode identification, fracture characteristics, material behavior, machinery diagnostics, and the development and validation of logical failure hypotheses. These concepts are reinforced through practical case studies using EasyRCA root cause analysis software to demonstrate how evidence and hypotheses are organized into a logical, defensible failure analysis.
Failure mechanisms involving shafts, bearings, fasteners, gears, and other machinery components are examined with an emphasis on connecting physical evidence to operating conditions, maintenance practices, installation errors, and machinery forces.
The course also incorporates hands-on practical exercises using Hendrix Precision rotating equipment simulators. Participants use the simulators to better understand machinery forcing functions and how conditions such as unbalance, misalignment, looseness, and other mechanical deficiencies create the vibration and physical responses observed during machinery diagnostics and component failure analysis.
Participants leave with a practical, repeatable methodology for investigating machinery failures, identifying contributing and root causes, and developing corrective actions that help prevent repeat failures and improve equipment reliability.

As an Associate Instructor with Hendrix Precision, I provide hands-on Precision Maintenance training designed to give maintenance professionals the practical skills needed to install, maintain, and repair rotating equipment to precision standards.
Hendrix Precision classes combine technical instruction with extensive hands-on exercises using dedicated machinery simulators and precision measurement tools. Participants develop practical skills in precision measurement, shaft and coupling inspection, soft-foot correction, machinery alignment, proper fastening practices, belt drive installation, and other critical maintenance techniques.
The focus is on developing practical skills technicians can take back to the plant floor and immediately apply to improve equipment reliability.

In partnership with Prelical Solutions and internationally recognized Root Cause Analysis experts Bob and Ken Latino, MaheuRx Reliability supports a comprehensive three-day Root Cause Analysis (RCA) course designed to give participants a practical, structured methodology for investigating failures and preventing recurrence.
Led by Bob and Ken Latino, the course teaches participants how to move beyond identifying what happened and develop an evidence-based understanding of why the failure occurred. Participants learn to use a structured Logic Tree methodology to identify and validate physical causes, human errors, and the latent or systemic deficiencies that allow failures to occur.
Preston Maheu supports the machinery failure analysis portion of the course, bringing practical experience in machinery diagnostics and component failure analysis into the RCA process. This module helps participants understand how physical evidence from failed machinery components can be examined, interpreted, and incorporated into the overall Root Cause Analysis investigation.
Through classroom instruction, real-world industrial case studies, hands-on exercises, and practical application of RCA techniques, participants develop the skills needed to conduct more effective investigations and develop corrective actions that address underlying causes rather than symptoms.
Participants leave with a repeatable Root Cause Analysis methodology they can apply to safety, equipment failures, operational events, and chronic reliability problems—helping their organizations reduce repeat failures and build a stronger problem-solving culture.
